What do the police actually do?

I know the title might tick many people the wrong way. It is mostly what I see in the police force in my city. I have been thinking about this for a long time. We hear crimes on the news. But then there is barely any follow ups. Does it mean that nothing has been done? I would guess so. The law enforcement loves glories. It's not really possible for anyone not to say anything if he/she breaks a case.

A few months ago, my car got broken into. As it was my first time, I had no idea what I needed to do. Items were taken from my car; therefore, I would have suspected finger prints were all over the places. I took many pictures in and around my car. (I was guessing that's what you should do on the scene) I phoned 911 as I had no idea what I should do so they transferred me to Calgary Police. The only thing the policeman asked me on the phone was ... "Was there any witness?" I answered not I know of. He just told me to go onto the Calgary Police website and filed a report. I have not heard back since.. not even a phone call asking me. I saw some street camera near where my car was broken into and as I mentioned above, finger prints must be all over. I was about to take the prints myself as you see it on TV shows all the time. :) But nothing... the police refused to come out. I feel so "cared" by the police enforcement here in Calgary and especially I do pay quite a bit of taxes.

Some of the items stolen from my car belonged to work. Therefore, people at work constantly asking me if I got updated from the police. I just thought everything is a joke by now. Really.. do you feel the police cares? And not to forget to mention the Crime solving rate in Calgary is comparably lower than surrounding cities.

Oh then.. a few days ago, a friend of mine made a distress call to 911. The police did not show up for another 2 hours. I am no medical examiner. But I would say the body would have been cold by then if the person decided to take his or her own life in minute one.

My friend has also told me that one of the policeman beat up his friend very badly. A while later that they saw the same police on the road... the police said.. "do you want more?"

Many people I know were never fans of police. Now I slowly to see their points. I also wonder why they never bother to tell people their names when they went to "visit" people's houses. Just so people do not know who to file a complain against?

Now I really wonder what was this police woman doing before she got into the accident. Everyone knows to call in sick or asked for reduced duty while feeling ill, I can't say I buy the reason of "medical condition"
